What's better than eating candy? Doing it while learning the steps of the Scientific Method, obviously!
This product has it all, a detailed lesson plan, including learning goals, list of materials, advanced preparation, directions and lesson extension ideas, a two page student lab sheet, and an answer key.
Students are given a Tootsie Pop candy. They are walked through the process of making qualitative and quantitative observations using four of their five senses. They will then form a Question based off of the company's famous slogan, "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? The World may never know." Students will then form a Hypothesis. The next step includes detailed Procedures, explaining the steps to the experiment. Space is provided to record their data as they lick their way through the Tootsie Pop, toward the center. Students will then analyze their data, make post observations, share their data and finally complete Conclusions.
An answer key follows to help teachers guide students to discover that they all ended up with different data. If desired, an extension activity helps guide teachers through a discussion on variables, which affect the varied "lick" results.
