This short, snappy, and humorous handout is something I give out on the first day of class for every course I teach.
It's written for both the students' and the teacher's/professor's benefit. Use this handout to cut down on miscommunications, rude behavior like texting in class, or confusion regarding what is expected of students both inside and outside the class during the course of the term or semester.
It's written in such a way so that the students feel that they know exactly what will help them succeed (aka: get a high grade) in the class as well as behaviors that will cause them to lose points.
This handout was created for University level art, design, and multimedia courses with 15-30 students in particular but can be easily modified to suit ANY course with any number of students. Just take what I have written and tweak it to suit YOUR needs.
After going over the syllabus and requirements for the semester, I usually have students take turns reading my Top 10 List out loud to the rest of the class on Day 1.
I've found this handout to personally be a lifesaver and have seen that it really makes a difference in terms of students knowing what I expect from them throughout the semester. Students also seem to love having an easy guide to follow that will help them be the best they can be in my courses.
