Phonics Boxes are activities formatted for the boxes available at Michaels that contain 16 smaller boxes. These activities can also be stored in 6x9 brown envelopes or any other way you would like to store them. Each “box” contains a sound or syllable sort and a flashcard activity/game. The cards can also be used just as flashcards and, if laminated, you can have your students use dry erase markers to highlight phonic concepts (such as vowels, digraphs, blends, etc.) There is a title card for the front of the box or envelope and directions. I use double-sided tape to adhere them.
“Top Secret Syllables” is an activity for practicing syllable division in words containing closed syllables.
For the word sort, students will decide where words divide. Header cards for VC/CV, VC/V, VCC/CV, VCC/CCV, and VC/CCV are included. 33 sorting cards are included.
For the game “Top Secret Syllables”, 45 word cards and 15 “Top Secret” cards are included. Students take turns reading the word cards. If they get a “Top Secret” card, they must read the nonsense word on the card and then they get an extra turn. The student with the most cards at the end is the winner.
