If your students like “War” card games, they’ll love TOP TRUMP WILD ANIMALS! You’ll love it too, because it provides lots of practice comparing fractions without boring worksheets. This product is geared toward students just beginning to compare fractions. Only halves, thirds, fourths, sixths and eighths are used, and the comparisons are not complex (see the preview). This is an easy activity to learn, and every game provides different challenges. Animal names on each card add a little science.
2 or 3 students can play. Players take turns turning over their top card and determining which fraction on their card has the greatest value. He/she calls out that color, and the value. The other players look at their fraction in that color. The player with the greatest fraction wins all the cards from that round. Play and compare fractions until all the cards have been used, or extend the game by placing cards which are won at the bottom of the players draw piles, and playing until one player wins all the cards.
