This activity introduces students to all of the key features found on topographic maps. Students are required to draw a topographic map of their own island, including these features: steep and shallow slopes, stream, cliff, swamp, valley, depression, hiking trail, beach, and an elevation scale for the contour lines. A companion Power Point is available to aid instruction. A very popular activity with a blend of science, math, and art. Really effective way to engage Earth Science students to topography, different landforms (see companion Power Point), and contour lines. This is an improved and updated version the former activity.
