This lesson addresses Ohio State Standard: ESS Topic 3: This topic focuses on the physical features of Earth and how they formed. This includes the interior of Earth, the rock record, plate tectonics and landforms. Topographic, physical and aerial maps, crosssections, field trips and virtual settings are methods of demonstrating the structure and formation of each type of feature.
This lesson asks students to use 10 land feature picture cards to analyze a landform map for 3D features. The students then use modelling clay to create 3D models of their sections of the landform map. Using a plastic container students are asked to create a topographic map from their models.
