Tornado is written by Newbery Award winning author Betsy Byars. It is a great book to teach about weather, historical fiction, and story within a story. The novel is written primarily for grades 3-5. If there are readers reading below grade level, this book is wonderful for use in grades 6-9 as well. This product is a novel unit study. This unit as written is suitable for students with or without a disability. For each chapter of the book, there is a worksheet that includes 10 to 14 vocabulary words and 5 comprehension questions. Answers for most of the comprehension questions are found in the reading; a few questions ask the reader for their opinion or to make predictions and justify their answers. This unit does not include a novel test. Instead it includes an informational reading article about tornadoes and then asks the students to classify information from the reading. The unit concludes with the students making tornadoes in a bottle. It does include a full answer key.
