We used this activity in class to practice doubling strategies. By playing this game, the students were lead to discover the property of doubles on their own (as in doubles being always even numbers). The students enjoyed the game (who doesn’t love playing with dice?) and discovering the pattern on their own.
Students roll the dice, double the number, and then color in the corresponding column on their chart. As they roll more numbers and make more doubles, they will notice that not all numbers on the chart are getting colored in. This is my favorite form of learning - where the students discover patterns on their own.
A full lesson plan and reproducible chart is included.
