Touch money provides a structured and a highly visual learning environment for counting money. Through this unit, students are afforded the opportunity to practice counting money using touchpoints. Prior to implementing this unit, students should be able to skip count by 5.
In this unit, you will be provided with large sample coins (make copies of the large print coins to give to the students, then allow the students to use buttons to place on the location of the touchpoints or a string to use on the penny). Students can use these coins to practice counting their individual coin. In addition, small coins are presented. Using the smaller coins, students can practice counting coins in quantities at a time. I suggest that you have them practice using their fingers rather than pencil, simply because when they count coins, they will not use pencils to write on them. When performing the worksheet title, "How Much Money," students should use small coins to count accurately.
