We do a lot of talking in my classroom... not socializing, but talking about text! My students struggled with what to talk about, so I started using story gloves to guide their conversations. But, my gloves weren't digging deep enough and they weren't changing to meet my instruction; nor were they meeting the needs of a very diverse bunch of students. So, I created: Touch & Talk: Retell Gloves for Upper Elementary! These guide students to meaningful conversations about text, strengthen students' retell skills, and demand the rigor of our Common Core standards. (Plus, they are EXCELLENT practice for mClass assessments, or other Oral Reading Fluency assessments!)

These gloves align with RI, RL, and SL standards; along with many others. They are versatile and can be used cross-curriculum.

Literature: RL.3.10, RL.4.10, RL.5.10
Speaking & Listening: Sl.3.2, SL.4.2, SL.5.2
Reading Foundations: RF.3.4, RF.4.4, RF.5.4

I created mine using $1.50 pairs of gloves, but some of my students prefer touching a glove cut-out (included in your download). Some of my students don't even wear the gloves anymore, but I see them talking with their hands!

Extension Idea: Label fingers with blank stars. Have students use Signal/Cue words and/or Evidence-Based Terms to retell the story without clues.
