Students delve into a medieval tournament as a knight's squire in charge of keeping track of the wins and losses. The Tournament Checkbook is leveled 3 ways so all students can enjoy the activity. The extra practice is leveled 2 ways with options for struggling students.
The problem information is underlined in the story and the checkbook register is partially filled out to help students focus on the problems. Students will add the correct sign indicating addition or subtraction using the story and solve to find the answers.
Students will read the story and enter in the appropriate information on the checkbook register page. Problems are in the double digits only.
Students read the story to find the correct information to add and subtract. The problems and answers enter into the hundreds range.
Your Squire friend makes a mistake in his knight's checkbook. Find the error and fix the checkbook. This activity has two levels.
Students find the error on the check register and solve the rest of the problems correctly.
Students find the error in addition and then have to look closer to find an error in mathematical symbols using language resulting in subtracting instead of adding.
The extra practice does not include a struggling level, but gives a few tips to easily adapt the On-Level for your struggling students.
