Students will utliize articles from the NY Times that consider the possibility of raising the driving age. Students will examine methods used by authors to support their claims. Students will use graphic organizers to help them trace the arguments, as well as to aid them in write objective summaries of the text. Students will also perform their own research of the topic. Students will ultimately participate in a philosophical chair debate, using all the articles, graphic organizers, etc... to support their claim. Students will write a reflection after that has them examine strong and weak arguments.
