Tracks of a Reader is an Expository reading strategy that correlates with standards in the Common Core. It makes the reading of an informational text interactive. It is an effective instructional strategy for all students. This strategy can be used while reading any type of informational text such as Scholastic News, Weekly Reader, Time for Kids or any newspaper or magazine article. Students “track” and monitor their thinking during reading by drawing the appropriate symbol next to a word, sentence or paragraph. Students can also use sticky notes to stick the symbol near the word, sentence or paragraph. Students will become aware of their thinking (metacognition) while reading.
