I created this resource as an introduction for my students who were learning how to add. The first part is a partner-activity where students each create their one-digit number using Base-10 blocks, and then add with their partner. If there are more than 10 units, then students must switch out for a rod. The cards make it easy to keep the game going so little hands won't be preoccupied with playing around.
The second activity is a really fun game called "Pizza Party!" Students will flip an addition-problem pizza card over and find the sum using Base-10 blocks. The fastest player will keep the pizza card. The first person with a full pizza (6 slices) wins the game.
There are four levels of Pizza Party:
Sausage & Peppers= no regrouping
Cheese= 1-digit regrouping
Mushroom= 2-digit + 1-digit regrouping
Pepperoni= 2-digit regrouping
Long after students have learned the skill, they can continue practicing their skills with the advanced levels.
Base-10 blocks are necessary for both games.
