Do your students need practice trading pennies for dimes? If so, this game may be just what you're looking for!
Materials needed to play: printable game board, a die, pennies, and dimes.
Two versions are included: One version has numbered circles for pennies and starred circles for dimes. The other version has circles labeled “P” for pennies and “D” for dimes. Both versions come in color and black & white.
How to Play: Players take turns rolling one die and adding that many pennies to the penny area (one penny per numbered circle or “P” circle) of their colored zone - salmon for player 1, blue for player 2. After a player has reached ten pennies, he/she can trade them in for one dime. To do this, a player removes all ten pennies from the penny area and places a dime on a star/”D” in the dime area of their colored zone. If a player rolls a number that brings their total number of pennies over ten (i.e. Player 1 has 8 pennies on the game board and rolls a 6), he/she places the extra pennies in the “Extras” box. He/She then removes all ten pennies from the numbered circles, adds a dime, and then slides the extras up to fill the necessary amount of numbered circles. Game play continues until one player has filled in all 10 dimes or until time is up!
This game is a great addition to math centers/stations!
