Laminate and cut this simple traffic light visual, and attach velcro to each of the three colored circles. There are many ways to use a traffic light visual but my favorite are two are these:
1. Behavior management. Green represents good behavior, yellow is a warning, and red means a consequence is going into effect. I can use this visual with an individual student in a small group without disrupting the flow of the lesson to correct him.
2. Student self-assessment. If you make several, students can use this to show that they understand instructions and are working fine with a green light, that they need help but can continue working with a yellow light, and that they need immediate help before they can make any progress with a red light. Also works to monitor reading comprehension.
