This exploratory activity is an excellent way for students to learn more about closed figures and polygons while solidifying their understanding of endpoints, angles, and line segments. This is a hands-on version of the "Traffic Signs Investigation" activity from the Harcourt Math 2008 Grade 3 Volume 2 teacher edition. In this activity, students identify various polygons and closed figures by counting the sides and angles. Students also determine the number of right angles in each figure. I use this activity in a small group/math workshop setting. I created 4 sets of the cards that I printed on card stock and laminated and allowed students to work with a partner within their small group. I use this activity after my students have viewed and discussed the Plane Figures Mini-Lesson PowerPoint which can also be found in my TeachersPayTeachers store. Enjoy!
