Product Description
What is jigsaw strategy?

The cooperative learning strategy known as the "jigsaw" technique helps students create their own learning. Teachers arrange students in groups. Each group member is assigned a different piece of information. Group members then join with members of other groups assigned the same piece of information, and research and/or share ideas about the information. Eventually, students return to their original groups to try to "piece together" a clear picture of the topic at hand.

Why use Jigsaw?
Jigsaw helps students learn cooperation as group members share responsibility for each other's learning by using critical thinking and social skills to complete an assignment. Subsequently, this strategy helps to improve listening, communication, and problem-solving skills.

This Trail of Tears Jigsaw activity comes with 4 Primary Sources/critical thinking questions for students to complete. Each student will become an expert on and share the learning with their groups.

The Documents are:
1. DOCUMENT 1 - Jackson’s Message to Congress 1830
2. DOCUMENT 2 - Samuel’s Memory
3. DOCUMENT 3 John G. Burnett’s Story of the Removal of the Cherokees
4. DOCUMENT 4 – Trail of Tears Painting by Robert Ottakar Lindneux

Students will interpet the visuals with an "I See", "It Means" and "Conclusion" piece.

A Teacher Instructions page includes How to Jigsaw in 10 easy Steps.
