In studying the Holocaust, I really wanted my students to be impacted by what the Jews went through. After visiting the Holocaust museum in Houston, TX, I came up with this simulation. While at the museum, I got to stand in a train car from the Holocaust. I took measurements and recreated the size in my school's hallway. Then I put together this simulation for my students, and other teacher's students, to participate in. The simulation had a stronger impact than I thought it would and my students all had a better understanding of what a "ride in a cattle car" meant after. It was probably one of the most useful lessons I've ever taught. This is part of a three-part lesson...This particular download is the writing prompt I used for my students so that they could practice writing a narrative while also learning about the Holocaust.
