Remember the Oregon Trail Game? Here is a Trans-Saharan Trade version. Students play the part of an African trying to acquire enough wealth to purchase the freedom of his/her family. Played as a class students must manage supplies and develop a plan as to how to sell such goods on the Trans Saharan Trade as Gold, Salt, Slaves, Fruit, Silk, etc. Dangers abound around every corner: disease, raiders, sandstorms, etc. Students will keep a log of all these events and then write a letter to their grand children detailing the accomplishments, hardships, and overall success of their mission. The game can either be played with the in game spinner or with dice.
