Once your students have learned about transcendentalism, challenge them to apply one of the tenets of transcendentalism to their own lives.
I usually give students at least a week (two weekends) to complete this assignment. It is almost all done outside of class. Students complete a reflection at the end of the experience.
A rubric is included.
Project range from spending time in nature to building something with their hands.
This is usually a student favorite and they walk away really understanding Transcendentalism.
