This is a great resource for either an opening or closing activity when studying Transcendentalism. This activity could be used in either a literature or social studies classroom. This activity allows students to evaluate Thoreau's ideas by applying their own beliefs. Using the PowerPoint Presentation, students will read an idea and then move around the room to a designated area where they either agree or disagree with the statement. Thoreau's ideas are presented in an easy-to-read format which allows students to truly comprehend and understand transcendentalist ideals. Each statement allows students to discuss their opinions and listen to others. Quotes and images by Thoreau break up each ideal to further implement his works. Give this fun and unique activity a try and allow your students to speak up!
