Product Description
This activity can be used mid-way through a study of Emerson and Thoreau and transcendentalism, or it can be used as a review of the unit. Students are required to make connections to famous lines from the two key transcendental authors to lyrics from a contemporary song and to cartoons. Included are a link to a Google Doc of the product for those who would like to utilize Google Classroom to send this assignment to students, a link to the video of the song, discussion questions and suggested answers to use with the video for the song, a list of Emerson/Thoreau quotes for student use (although you could require them to use the excerpts you teach to find lines to connect to the song and cartoons), student handouts, and teacher notes describing how I use this activity in my class. My goal for any unit I teach is for students to see the contemporary connections to the themes of the literature, and this activity does just that.
