This is an assignment for students to choose ten quotes from a list of more than 80 Emerson, Thoreau, and Longfellow quotes and create a unique presentation. I purposefully leave the format vague; students may create a movie, PowerPoint, Prezi, skit, original song, game, etc. Options include "Transcendentalist’s Playlist," "Transcendentalism at the Movies," "An Oxymoron? Government and Transcendentalism," "The Athletic Transcendentalist," "This is Your Television on Transcendentalism," and "Two by Two and Transcendentalism." As a warm-up to this activity, we read excerpts from "Self-Reliance" and "Civil Disobedience." Students also do my TpT Civil Disobedience activity found here: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Civil-Disobedience-I-Think-He-Thinks-We-Think-406862 and Laura Randazzo's TpT Duck Dynasty activity found here: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Use-Duck-Dynasty-as-a-Link-to-the-Transcendental-Texts-of-Emerson-Thoreau-856591.
