This is a great activity to get students to connect with Transcendentalism. Transcendentalism is not an easy concept to teach students who cannot go 5 minutes without their cell phone or Twitter, so I use this writing activity to think about Transcendentalism based on these current ideas, phrases, and adages.
This writing prompt has 2 slides. The first breaks down Transcendentalism into short, relevant phrases for students to consider. The second is the actual writing prompt in which students must identify with one of the phrases on the previous slide and relate it to a Transcendentalist work that we've read -- Nature, Walden, or Self-Reliance.
