This product was designed for older students who stutter. Once the student has learned strategies for reducing their stuttering and is able to apply them in a quiet one-on-one setting, I bring out the ladder tool. We brainstorm real life situations that cause anxiety and increase the chance of stuttering. Then we rank these situations from least to most stressful on the ladder. We actually do the activities, starting at the bottom and working our way up the ladder as the student gains confidence with using his or her fluency strategies.
