This PowerPoint presentation gives many examples of where transformations (reflections, rotations, translations) are found in art and architecture from around the world. It is ideal to show after students have had an introduction to these concepts and before the Logo Creation project (see "Ready, Set, Logo" project). This project is a wonderful integration of art and math.
Also, there is a separate reflection/response sheet with questions that students can answer as they watch the PowerPoint. (Search for "Symmetry in Art Questions")
The presentation includes examples of these mathematical transformations in Islamic art and architecture, Buddhist sand mandalas, and contemporary logos.
