These guided notes provide examples of transformations to parent functions. My suggested use is to have students complete the chart of transformations based on the graphs. After students have explored the graphs and completed the charts for a transformation, have them write the formula/generalizations for that transformation in the box at the top of the page. Includes vertical and horizontal translation, vertical and horizontal shrinking/stretching, and reflecting across the x-axis and y-axis.

Identify the effect on the graph of replacing 𝘧(𝘹) by 𝘧(𝘹) + 𝘬, 𝘬 𝘧(𝘹), 𝘧(𝘬𝘹), and 𝘧(𝘹 + 𝘬) for specific values of 𝘬 (both positive and negative); find the value of 𝘬 given the graphs. Experiment with cases and illustrate an explanation of the effects on the graph using technology.
