Students of all ages love pentominoes! Use these manipulatives to hook students and to improve visualization skills while gaining a deeper understanding of transformations.
I can never seem to find lessons using pentominoes that are appropriate for secondary students so I created my own.
-Perform geometric transformations: translation, reflection, rotation, dilation.
-Identify lines and points of symmetry.
-Write translation rules.
-Visualize transformations and create solutions to dilation, area, and perimeter problems.
Objective: Students will use pentominoes to visualize and develop a deeper understanding of transformations.
