The transition flipbook is a great resource for students early in the year when writing. When creating the flipbook, students move, share, and write.
This PowerPoint walks students through the different categories of transition words, provides a word bank for each, and gives guided practice. The whole book can be tackled in one class period or a couple sections can be done at the beginning of a class.
There are seven categories covered: time and sequence, similar/compare, different/contrast, examples and illustrations, cause and effect, emphasis, and additional information.
Students will need four pieces of paper cut hot-dog style and folded to create flaps.
This is a great way to introduce your students to transitions early on! I encourage you to brainstorm with your students movements for each category. For example, "chronological order" might be looking at a pretend watch.
