The “All About Me Poster” is designed to be a one page "cheat sheet" of sorts on the critical information for a student with special needs. It can be completed by special education teachers or classroom teachers using factual information from the latest IEP, Educational Assessment, IPRC, report card and/or anecdotal information from the classroom. This does not in any way replace an individual education plan. It is simply a tool to help teachers share important information about a student to help them be successful through transitions (to a new school, new classroom, new teacher, new educational assistant). It could also be used in meetings with parents and staff. Always keep in mind the confidentiality and dignity of the students and share only with staff who need to know. This is a bright, visually appealing and easy to read resource for staff who are new to your student!
I came up with this many years ago when working with high needs students who were transitioning to a new program at a different school. I presented the posters at IPRC meetings and they were very well received by teaching staff, principals and parents alike.
PARENTS: You are your child's best advocate! If your child's school is not doing something similar, this is for you too! Your child's new school/teacher will really appreciate it and you will be able to share the best insights into your child's needs.
