Hey there! Are you a special education teacher or classroom teacher who is welcoming a new student with some special needs in your school or classroom? Maybe you are the teacher preparing a transition package to send your student off successfully to their new school. Awesome! This is for you.
This is a template of sorts for you to use. Simply replace the images with your own and add/delete text and slides as appropriate for the student and the school.
This is my first time adding something to my TPT store and I hope you like it! If you do, please check out the rest of my transition package items.
Support with transitions is an important part of a student's IEP. This document can be prepared by the school who is receiving the student or facilitated by the school that is sending the student (however if that's you, you will need to bug the receiving school for photos). Ideally, students will have the opportunity to visit the new school with their parents and meet their new teachers ahead of time. Photos may be taken during this trip. This "book" will be extra important and helpful if your student is not able to visit the new school ahead of time.
A welcome book like this can be very helpful for the family of the student as they help prepare them for the new school. This “book” can be shared digitally with parents and the student and it may be viewed on a computer or iPad/tablet with the free Google Slides or Google Drive app installed. You may also print this in colour and give it to the student that way. If printing, I recommend placing each page in a page protector and placing it in a report/duotang folder, so the student may read it many times without worrying about ripping the pages. As the receiving school, this is a great way to start a positive relationship with parents! Enjoy!
