Teaching students to use transition words in writing can be a challenge, especially for students who are struggling learners. I use this for Georgia Alternative Assessment in my self contained special education resource room. Let this PRINT & GO packet help These five tasks gain in complexity to show growth. The first two tasks are fill-in-the blank in nature including word banks. The last three tasks require students to write or dictate but continue to provide a word bank. There is a rubric for grading all work with transitional words. It may be used with other assignments as well. All documents are in Word format and can be uploaded into Google Drive for use electronically. Works well for ELACC5w3c or ELACC4w3c
TASK 1 School day- Students will use a word bank to fill in the appropriate transitional words and phrases to make a paragraph about their school day
TASK 2 Halloween- Students will choose the appropriate transition word to make the paragraph make sense.
TASK 3- Super Hero- Students will pretend that they are a Super hero and must save the city from a dinosaur. A word bank with transition words and other helpful words is included. Students can dictate, type, write, or use word prediction software
TASK 4- Thanksgiving- Students are given a word bank and the topic sentence My family enjoys Thanksgiving. . Students can dictate, type, write, or use word prediction software
TASK 5- Teacher for the Day- Students are given a word bank of transition words and phrases. They are to write a paragraph describing what they would do if they were the teacher. Students can dictate, type, write, or use word prediction software
