Four parts to this large pack of transitional word activities. Depending on your classroom needs, you could spend anywhere from one day to one week on this pack. You can easily break the various sections into group work and independent work.
-Part 1: Pages 1-4, Table of common transitional words, their purpose, example sentence, then a space student to write a sentence with a transition from that category (The 12 categories are the purposes of transitions, such as, to show: order, contrast, purpose, summarize, example, dispute, etc.)
-Part 2: Pages 4-6, "Activity A" - Ten multiple choice questions, with a matching element.
-Part 3: Page 6, "Activity B" - Ten matching questions.
-Part 4: Page 6, "Activity C" - Ten fill in the blank questions.
-Answer key on page 7. (Page 8 is blank, an error!)
The tables on pages 1-4 are a great year-round writing resource and/or study guide. When students are writing essays, I require that they keep the tables out where they can refer to them easily - and it reminds them to use transitions! (State writing love the use of transitions, and not using any will cost the student points. I know not all states are requiring full essays at this point, but even in short responses, transition are expected.)
I am in the midst of making a modified version of this handout for SpEd students, so watch for that. It will have the same title but say SpEd in it as well.
As always, if you purchase anything from me, I am happy to email you the same item as a Word document so you can individualize it to your classroom.
