This writing strategy is originally part of our full “Catcher” unit. We decided to sell this component separately and it includes the transition words and phrases. These words and phrases promote strong, complex sentence writing techniques which progressively enhance students’ writing abilities during the school year.
The variety of choices helps students to combine and link together similar thoughts, ideas or examples. Subsequently, students can also join together opposing ideas and offer a contrasting set of views.
We have used strategy for low level students who need to work on the basics of complex sentence structure as well as for more advanced writers who are ready to challenge their writing ability by creating more sophisticated paragraphs.
Due to its simplicity, we have had numerous students come back to ask for another copy of the handout even after they have graduated from class or even from high school. The chart is very effective and very easy to use.
