In my class we use transitional phrases in writing, writing about reading, social studies, and even talking. I have clearly categorized the transitional words and phrases to make them useful to any student from third grade to college. It clearly tells the student which words you use to introduce the first piece of evidence and then others to show importance. There are words to compare, contrast, show importance, analyze the meaning of evidence, and conclude paragraphs. I have used the same chart with students ranging from third to ninth grade and all students found it extremely useful and easy to use.
