PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a guide meant to assist teachers who are trying to teach the multiplication algorithm with understanding. It shows the stages of representations that I have used to help guide my students from area models to the traditional algorithm.

Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

CCSS.Math.Content.5.NBT.B.5 Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
