Transitions is a sometimes difficult thing for students to grasp.
This document explains (briefly) the function of transitions and gives examples of how to employ them. It also includes practice problems that require students to choose a transition and label the TYPE of transition being used. This encourages students to understand the connections between ideas.
Transitions can also be more complex and varied. The second part of the lesson teaches "idea bridges": transitions that employ words, phrases, or ideas from the preceding sentence/paragraph to more fully link the concepts.
Because the answers for "idea bridges" practice can be so varied, the KEY includes only answers for the first practice part.
