This product contains 12 sets of problems for a total of 24 questions.
Necessary skills: :
Students need to be able to perform translations, reflections and rotations of quadrilaterals.
Directions for translations are given in units up/down or left/right.
Reflections are only over the x and y axes.
Rotations are clockwise and counter clockwise about the origin only.
Use this activity to encourage collaboration and mathematical discussion while students practice their transformation skills.
Partner 1 will complete a series of 12 transformations. Partner 2 has 12 different transformation problems. Each problem is labeled with letters from A- L. After both students complete their problem A, they need to compare the results of their transformations and identify the one coordinate that they have in common. In order to find a matching coordinate, students need to have performed the given transformation correctly. This should allow the activity to be self-checking. If no match is found, have students switch papers and try to determine who made an error.
Each student will perform:
2 translations, 2 reflections over the x-axis
2 reflections over the y-axis
3 90⁰ rotations
3 180⁰ rotations.
Extend the activity :
If a student did the problems for partner 1 they could do it again as partner 2 for an entirely new set of questions.
