A memory card game where students try to match verbal algebraic expressions with their mathematical equivalents. Many expressions are worded similarly with subtle differences so students must be very careful in their translating.
I have used this game for many years in my classroom and students seem to enjoy the competition while getting some great practice out of it. Works well with partners or small groups.
I copy the first page on one color of paper and the second page on a different color so students can be sure to always turn over a word phrase and a math phrase at the same time. This does require a bit of time to cut up the pieces. I usually cut them up myself and place them into small zippered baggies. I encourage them to treat them nicely so I can use them multiple times throughout the day. If you prefer, you can have the students cut them up before they play.
