Translating written expressions into algebraic expressions is a skill that students always need to practice. This activity turns translating expressions into an interactive game. Students will get up and move around the room to find another student with a matching expression.
This product contains two sets of match cards. The first is made up of expressions containing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The other set contains only subtraction expressions. I find these are the types of expressions that student struggle with and could use some extra practice on. Either set can be used on its own or you may mix them together.
The partner match can be used as a quick method to create random partners (and one group of three if needed) but it can also be played several times for a more in depth review.
The product also contains a quick check in that can be used at the end of class to take a gauge of each students' understanding of translating expressions.
