This cut-and-paste activity (with the option of having students circle choices on one page, rather than cutting and pasting) helps students recognize the correlation between words and mathematical operations. Students match words and phrases such as "split into", "decreased by", and "of" to the operations with which they are associated.
This activity would probably be best used instructionally when introducing "translating" between words and numerical expressions, or as a review activity to re-introduce this skill in an algebra class. It would also be a good activity to use in an interactive notebook.
*This activity is included in the Pre-Algebra Full Curriculum Bundle.
