In this lab, you will model three different types of motion. Students will take real-time data with stopwatches, average their times, then calculate the velocity and acceleration of each type of motion. The first type of motion will be translational. One volunteer student will run about 100 meters while the rest of the class times it using their stopwatches. The second trial will include you being up high (ideally at least 8 meters) and dropping a basketball and a brick from rest while students time with their stopwatches. Finally, you will drop the basketball and brick using a downward initial velocity while the students time with their stopwatches.
You will need a space for a student to run 100-ish meters in a straight line, a high spot for you to drop/throw objects down (preferably at least 8 meters), and a long tape measure.
