These transport mats with their dotted center line and STOP and GO signs are great for developing fine motor skills as well as reading and writing. Counting syllables helps children think about the sounds making up words which is important for reading and writing development. Syllable guide is included.
Simply print and laminate. Enlarge if you wish.
Options for use:
Children create the letters using play dough (mats may need to be enlarged depending on level of motor skills)
Dry erase markers:
Travel along the dotted line from GO to STOP. I have included tiny transport pictures that can be taped to the top of a marker or pencil for motivation.
Pointers or fingers:
Tracing letters is excellent practice, can be used as a quick activity and requires no clean up. Set up a station near the exit so children can quickly trace one word on their way out the door. Small pictures are included that can be taped or slipped over the tip of a pointer or finger.
Drive a little car over the dotted lines. Mats may need to be enlarged for this activity.
Use laminated transport mats at snack time so children can trace letters while they eat their snack right off the mat.
