Product Description

This is an activity that can get your students moving during circle time, indoor recess, gross motor play or just when your students need a brain break! There is also opportuntiy for math skills practice of number recognition, and counting. There are two dice: one with numbers on it (the amount of times the students move) and the other with transportation themed movements (how they move). There is a template to make the dice out of paper and also square cards that can be glued to a recycled box, pocket cubes, or joined together with a simple binder clip. There are print friendly versions of each.

Great to use for Transportation theme, or Things That Go theme.

Setup:

Review the skills/standards below and decide which (or all) standards will be part of your instructional goal.

Decide which dice you plan to use (recycled box, pocket cubes, or paper template) and print the appropriate template

Cut and assemble.

Directions:

This activity is ideal for circle time or small group time.

1. Have students stand up and spread out at least an arm’s length from each other to ensure ample room for movement.

2. Introduce the game: Tell the students you will be playing a fun game that gets our bodies moving.

3. Show the students each dice. One dice shows the movement and the other dice shows how many times they need to do that movement.

Skills/Standards practiced:

This activity is designed to align with the Preschool Foundational and Kindergarten Readiness Standards used in my state, which are:

  • PHS.1.2.a|b|d I can exhibit gross motor coordination (large muscle). I can demonstrate control and balance during movements that move me from one place to another (locomotor; e.g., walks forward in a straight line, hops, runs, and jumps over low objects). I can demonstrate coordination and balance in movements that do not move me from one place to another (nonlocomotor; e.g., balances on one foot, moves body parts in isolation). I can exhibit control of body movement through space (e.g., runs and stops, changes direction while in motion, moves in response to a cue, and dances).
  • C.C.1.1 I can begin to count to 20 by ones.
  • C.C.2.4.C I can understand that each number name in sequence 0–10 means one more.
  • C.C.3.7 I can associate quantities with written numerals 1–10.
