Developmentally appropriate Transportation math centers for the preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten classroom! This resource is perfect for all developmental and cognitive levels of early childhood. The centers are fun, engaging, and offer challenges and reinforcement of basic skills.
This resource is set up with 3 levels of developmentally appropriate one-to-one Correspondence and Counting centers for the early childhood classroom. Every class is different, every student is different, so this resource gives you the option of starting out slowly, building on what your students know, and offering a challenge as skills are mastered.
Level 1: Count & Match Manipulatives Cards
This beginning level center activity starts us off with concrete hands-on counting! One side of the card has a numeral, the other has a picture of a vehicle. Place a manipulative-I use transportation counters, but you can use any manipulatives you have on hand. Students will place a manipulative on the vehicles as they count and name the number!
Level 2: Link & Count Engines & Box Cars
This activity builds on the first with simple and concrete numeral recognition and counting 1-10. Students will link box cars’ with train engines according to the number on the train engine. This center allows the students to work and count slowly using connecting links for fine motor development.
Level 3: Look, Count & Add the Beads
This activity builds on the first two. This activity adds a fine motor element to our numeral identification and one-to-one correspondence. Students will see the number and lace the correct amount of jumbo perler beads or pony beads onto the pipe cleaner attached to the number flag on top! This is a more advanced activity as the students will need to understand that every numeral represents a quantity.
Choose the center activity that will work best for your students!
Kids love learning about things that GO! Make this your best transportation unit yet!
