I use this interactive worksheet to reinforce the basic design of transverse waves and to introduce the calculation of frequency and speed to my students.
Part 1 – students measure the amplitude and wavelength (in cm) of 6 different wave trains. They are guided in counting frequency and calculating speed (wavelength x frequency).
Part 2 – Analysis – through a series of questions, students compare frequency and wave speed as they learn that the amount of energy a wave carries is a property of frequency rather than speed (a common misconception for students!).
