    Description

    This all-encompassing curriculum provides everything needed to address the language needs of first-grade language learners suffering from traumatic pasts. Unit one covers the topic, feelings, and emotions. Unit two covers the topic, narrative storytelling.

    It is designed to encourage healing and successful language acquisition for ESL ELL EL EFL ESOL EAL students. 

    Each lesson embeds differentiation tools into the activities and assessments to accommodate EL levels 1-4. The curriculum is written for EL teachers as the lessons work well with pull-out groups. The lessons can be easily used by classroom teachers, SPED and intervention pull-outs, and adapted for social work settings.

    There are two units, sold separately or as a bundle. They can be taught on their own or in tandem.

    This product is the bundle and includes both unit one and unit two. The contents of each are listed below: 

    Unit 1 Google Folder Contents: Feelings/Emotions

    Social-Emotional Learning Goals:

    • Give students vocabulary to describe their feelings and to help them learn how to regulate their emotions

    Skills addressed:

    • Match emotions to corresponding pictures
    • Use long and short vowel sounds
    • Name events that make one feel sad
    • Name activities that care for oneself when they are feeling bad
    • Listen to stories of kids and use feeling words to describe their feelings

    Unit 2 Google Folder Contents: Story Telling

    • Unit overview
    • 6 lesson plans
    • 4 supplementary activities designed to complement the objectives
    • Google slide presentations
    • Formative and summative assessments (differentiated) 
    • Pre and post-assessments

    Social-Emotional Learning Goals: 

    • Build a classroom culture of trust and understanding
    • Give students a healthy space to explore their feelings during significant events in their life

    Skills addressed: 

    • Match adjectives to their corresponding picture
    • Identify significant events in their life
    • Sequence events in a story
    • Use adjectives in writing
    • Write a personal narrative that has a beginning, middle, and end
    • Read their narrative to a teacher

    This curriculum arms teachers with tools to help ELs heal and succeed in their language development while overcoming barriers from trauma.
