Product Description
Use these trauma lessons to help kids and young adults cope with the trauma and challenges they have experienced. The toolkit is designed as a workbook with lessons and activities for kids to complete as they develop confidence, improve peer connections, understand trauma, identify their own triggers, and empower themselves to make positive choices. The ultimate goal of trauma therapy is to help kids become strong and resilient, even after dealing with challenging life events.

Using a Trauma Toolkit
Kids and young adults experience trauma after a stressful event or a series of stressful events that disrupt a person's sense of safety. Trauma can come from a number of different situations, including abuse, violence, rape, natural disaster, neglect, an accident, death of a family member, frequent moving, serious injury, war, and many more.

Because we often may not know the exact source of a child's trauma, this toolkit is designed to work on skills to overcome challenges, rather than focusing on any one specific event.

Research has shown that the important elements in helping kids work through their trauma is allowing them to feel safe, connected, and that they have a voice. That's why this workbook focuses on these skills before drilling down deeper into trauma and prevention education.

The Importance of Being Trauma Informed
Being “Trauma Informed” means understanding trauma and the serious impacts it brings, recognizing the possible symptoms and effects, and providing supports to help kids and young adults who might be experiencing such trauma. Many kids and young adults have experienced some type of trauma in their lives. Instead of seeing kids and young adults simply as “behavior problems”, “sad”, “low-performing”, or “withdrawn”, it’s important to consider that trauma may be an element at play. In many cases, their behaviors are reactions to the trauma they once experienced. Looking at it through this “trauma informed” lens helps all adults understand the needs of kids to heal and work through challenges, rather than just focusing on problems.
