PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This product asks the students to use the skills they have learned during the previous units and combine it with new grammar and vocabulary to create a travel postcard. The premise is that the students are in the middle of a vacation and they are writing about what they already did (the preterite), but also what they are going to do, what they want to do, what they need to do (etc…) during the rest of their trip. The focus of this project is using the travel vocabulary, infinitive expressions and the preterite to explain their travels in a simple postcard. I used this as final assessment for the travel unit.

Each of the assignments has three parts:
1) a brainstorm that they use to come up with the vocabulary they will need to describe each segment of their trip.
2) a section that organizes grammar patterns to help them formulate the body of their postcard.
3) the writing assignment complete with a postcard blank for the students to fill in.

*YOU WILL HAVE TO SHOW THEM HOW TO WRITE A POSTCARD (where to put the address, the body of the postcard, etc). Writing postcards is becoming a lost art….

This product contains two separate (nearly identical) assignments. One is a postcard that is geared toward the travel experience in Costa Rica, and the other one focuses on Peru. I gave the students the first one as an in-class practice assignment so they could ask me questions and talk to each other while completing their first postcard. The second assignment I gave them to complete in class on their own. I allowed the students to use their books but not any dictionaries or electronics.
During the week that led up to this writing exam, I reviewed the infinitive expressions (double verb sentences) that the students had studied in previous chapters. This helped my students to formulate their sentences.

These are the formulas that are included in the product:
Ir a + inf.
Poder (o-ue) + inf.
Necesitar + inf.
Tener que + inf.
Pensar (e-ie) + inf.
Preferir (e-ie) + inf.
Querer (e-ie) + inf.
Deber + inf.
